Why In-Season Training?

Every coach wants their players in tip top shape at the start of each season. Most of the
athletes we see work with us an average of two months at a time. They are either
playing their primary sport year round or play multiple sports which does not allow them
the time necessary to improve their strength, conditioning and flexibility. We believe the
kids should come in during the season to help them maintain their fitness levels and to
cut down on their risk of injury.
Studies show that in as little as three weeks of no training, there are significant
decreases in strength, flexibility, power and agility. The players become beaten down
both physically and mentally as the season wears on. Those who don’t get as much
game action become de-conditioned quicker. Muscle soreness lingers so the coaches
don’t condition the team as much as they do earlier in the season but don’t usually
replace that time with regeneration methods, which leads to decreased flexibility. All of
this combined leads to slower, weaker athletes who are more prone to injury.
At C4 we recommend the athletes come in at least one hour a week. Our in-season
training program consists of stretching, foam rolling, light lifting and regeneration. Doing
this will help the players increase recovery by promoting blood flow and range of motion
to those muscle tissues that are sore. They will also stay strong and reduce the chance
of injury and finish the season on a high note!
